Calculating Grade Point Average

     Students are exposed to :

  • What is Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) which represent student's academic achievement.

What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the practise of taking someone's else work or ideas or passing them off as one's own.

How to prevent plagiarism

Step 1

  1. Planning Your Paper
  2. Consult your lecture/ Tutor

Step 2

  1. Cite your resources
  2. Make it clear who said that
  3. Know how to phraprase
  4. Evaluate your sources
  5. Include a reference page

GPA Calculation

Calculating Grade Point Average

Formula of GPA

GPA = The total credit values registered and attempted in the assessment of a semester
             -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The total credit units acquired in the same semester

Formula of CGPA

CGPA = The total credit values registered and attempted in the assessment of all semesters
               --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The total credit units acquired in all semesters

GPA Worksheet

1. Calculate the GPA for Amelia Ameer for her first semester

2. Calculate what would have happened if Amelia had earned a B in chemistry.
                  3. What is the difference in GPA?

1.

Comparative Animal Physiology
3.33 x 3
= 9.99

Biochemistry I :
1.67 x 4
= 6.68

Integrated Physiology Lab I
 4.00 x 1
= 4

Asian Civilization
 1.67 x 3
= 5.01

Ecology
4.00 x 3
= 12

Korean I
3.00 x 3
= 9

Total number of credits = 3+4+1+3+3+3
                                      = 17
Total points earned = 9.99 + 6.68 + 4 + 5.01 + 12 + 9
                                =  46.68

GPA = 46.68/17
         = 2.75

2. 3 x 4 = 12
Total points earned = 9.99 + 12 + 4 + 5.01 + 12 + 9
                                   = 52
GPA = 52/17
         = 3.05

3.
3.05 - 2.75
= 0.30

4.

Cell Biology
 3.33 x 4
= 13.32

Organic Chemistry I
3.00 x 4
= 12.00

Intro Physics I
2.00 x 3
= 6.00

Writing in Biology
2.00 x 3
= 6.00

Public Speaking
3.67 x 3
= 11.01

Total Number of Credits = 4 + 4 + 3 +3 + 3
                                        = 17

Total Points Earned
=  13.32 + 12.00 + 6.00 + 6.00 + 11.01
                                   = 48.33
GPA = 48.33/17
         = 2.84

5.
1.00 x 4
= 4

1.00 x 4 = 4
Total points earned = 4.00 + 12.00 + 6.00 + 6.00 + 11.01
                               = 39.01
GPA =
39.01/17
         = 2.29

If Amalia had received a D in Cell Bio , her GPA is getting decrease from 2.84 to 2.29.

6.

2.84 - 2.29
= 0.55

8.

She needs to score in almost every subjects in 1st semester in order to archieve a GPA of 3.00 in 2nd semester
